Celebration of Shabbat

That Shabbat is the most special day of the week is abundantly evident at Congregation Or Ami. The Shabbat experience is the central time around which members of the synagogue gather for prayer, learning, and to deepen their relationships with one another. Or Ami celebrates Shabbat in a manner that respects diversity of practice while encouraging congregants to grow in their observance and in their appreciation of the significance of traditional Shabbat customs. The myriad of Shabbat experiences at Or Ami encourage much spirited and enthusiastic participation.

The warm and supportive setting in which Or Ami celebrates Shabbat has made it a highlight of people's weekly lives, providing purpose and meaning as it has done for countless generations of Jews. We invite you to come and experience Shabbat at Congregation Or Ami. For more information about our Shabbat activities, please call the synagogue office at 713-334-4300.

Shabbat Morning

Services begin every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Shabbat morning embodies the essence of congregational participation as members join Rabbi Shaul Osadchey in leading services, chanting the Torah portion, and presenting the D'var Torah (sermon). Concurrent with the congregation's main service is the monthly Simchat Shabbat Learning Minyan that is an intergenerational Shabbat prayer experience. Rabbi Osadchey, Valerie Brown (The USY Advisor), and Gloria Mercer lead these minyanim whose emphasis is on the learning of prayer concepts, customs and ceremonies, holiday themes, and midrash.
